McLaren Vale makes the best wine in SA, according to a recent poll by 5MU.

Over a week they asked their listeners, ‘Which Region Makes the Best Wine?’

The majority of respondents picked the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula hotspot (23%) followed by the Adelaide Hills region (20%), followed by Langhorne Creek (20%).

The McLaren Vale wine region, with close proximity to the ocean and the foothills of the Mt Lofty Ranges, has a diversity of soil types including sand, clay and limestone. A wide range of wines are produced in the region including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon blanc.

Other popular spots in our poll include the prestigious Barossa Valley (12%), Clare Valley (9%) and Coonawarra (7%).

The South Australian industry is lauded all over the world and produces more than half the country’s wine.
