A Historical Walk Around Wallaroo

Wallaroo’s long heritage has left a fabulous legacy of fascinating old buildings, houses, churches and the ruins of the once famous copper smelters. Take the opportunity to walk the streets of Wallaroo and learn of its history and connection with the mining industry.

Along the way you will see the former residence of Caroline Carleton, famous for writing the words of “Songs of Australia” in 1859. With the trail beginning at the Wallaroo Maritime and Nautical Museum you will see the original Tipara Lighthouse, built in 1877 and relocated from the Tipara Reef in 2001.

Pick up a brochure outlining the walk from the Wallaroo Heritage and Nautical Museum or any of the Visitor Centres in the region.
